Qantas Wallabies prop Allan Alaalatoa has put pen-to-paper on a four-year extension to keep him in Australian Rugby until at least 2023.
The Brumbies prop burst onto the scene in 2014 and has quickly established himself as a Wallaby mainstay after making his Test debut against New Zealand in 2016.
The 24-year old is widely regarded in world rugby and knocked back several overseas offers to commit his long-term future to the Brumbies and also the Wallabies.
Qantas Wallabies prop Allan Alaalatoa said: “It’s very exciting for myself to put pen-to-paper. It’s something that myself and my family are very happy about and I’m just looking forward to what the future holds.
“I was already contracted for next year but when the opportunity came up to stay until the next Rugby World Cup, I discussed it with my family and the decision was a pretty easy one.
“There’s a great future ahead for the Wallabies. We have a young squad that’s developing each year so I’m just excited to hopefully be part of this group and what it can achieve.
“There was a bit of interest from overseas which is always something you consider but for me, first and foremost, was to stay with Australian Rugby and the Brumbies.
“We have a tough camp here (in D17Odawara, Japan) this week and a bit of a review from the disappointing result against the All Blacks. Really looking forward to the three Tests over in the UK. It’s going to be tough but it’s something the boys are keen for,” Alaalatoa said.
Alaalatoa starred at Australian Schoolboy and Under 20s level and has since gone on to earn back-to-back Forward of the Year awards at the Brumbies’ annual Brett Robinson Awards Night.
The tighthead prop is currently holding off the challenge for the Wallabies starting spot from rising star Taniela Tupou and 100-Test veteran Sekope Kepu ahead of Australia’s Spring Tour of Wales, Italy and England.
