Michale Cheika and John Eales support Sydney Convict ahead of Bingham Cup

With just days to go until the Sydney Convicts Rugby Club depart for the eighth Bingham Cup, support from around Australia has flooded in. From the 27th – 29th May, in Nashville, Tennessee USA, the club will play to retain the Bingham Cup, the world cup of gay rugby.

Head Coach of the Qantas Wallabies, Michael Cheika, spoke to the club this week giving players his advice on representing the country and playing in a World Cup tournament; “Win every single moment on the field, because you never know which moment is going to be the game changer that turns around a game”.

John Eales AM, the most successful captain in the history of Australian rugby, has a 10-year relationship with the club and sent his wishes too; “Good luck in bringing home the Bingham Cup and keeping it where it rightly belongs, in the trophy cabinet of the Australian Rugby Union”.

The Prime Minister of Australia, the Hon. Malcolm Turnbull MP, who has been a long time supporter of the club sent his wishes prior to departure; “I am always delighted to offer my support to the Sydney Convicts Rugby Club and in particular, wish you luck for the 2016 Bingham Cup as you prepare to defend your title. In previous years, you have competed with great passion and ability, and I’m sure this year will be no exception”.

With such high profile support from across the country, Club President Don Rose was humbled; “We are inspired and flattered to have the support of some of Australia’s highest profile people from rugby and politics, and every bit of the support will help us bring home the Bingham Cup, and tournament silverware for our 2nds team too”.
