Rugby Admin

Rugby volunteers are the lifeblood of our community.

Club Volunteers are a vital part of running a club and as such recruiting and retaining volunteers is key to your club’s success.

As a club you must develop practices to support your volunteer base. Clubs should work towards having a volunteer management plan that is innovative and flexible, so they can meet the needs and expectations of their club's volunteers. Rugby Australia implements annual Volunteer of the Year Recognition Awards to recognise those who volunteer their time and make a significant contribution to community rugby across Australia.

Play By the Rules also has useful resources and information for good governance of a Rugby Club. You can also visit your state or territory’s sport and recreation website for further information in your area.

HSBC Volunteer of the Year (2018 - CLOSED)

Volunteers are the backbone of our rugby community; donating countless hours to the club, offering words of encouragement and providing support wherever it’s needed. The HSBC Volunteer of the Year Award is your chance to say thank you to those who have given so much.

Eligibility and Criteria

There’s no job too small when it comes to winning this award. The HSBC Volunteer of the Year could be anyone – it could be the person who drives the team bus, cuts up the oranges at half time, marks out the field lines in the early morning or pumps up the balls each week for training.

The award considers anyone who has volunteered for free in grassroots rugby in the past two years – whether at a club, school or sub/zone union. The HSBC Volunteer of the Year is a role model who inspires others to get involved with our great game and exhibits Rugby Australia’s core values.

Is there a prize?

The winner will be awarded with a $10,000 grant from HSBC to go towards developing and improving their club. In addition to this, the winner will receive a VIP experience at the prestigious Rugby Australia Awards and meet some of Australia’s most respected rugby players.
