For the first time ever Foxtel Touch 7s will be recognised on the world stage after being listed as one of the major sports at the 2018 Pan Pacific Masters Games on the Gold Coast in November.
In another Australian Rugby first, there will be no qualification needed to take to the field. Anyone aged 30 or over is welcome to compete in either the women’s or mixed teams.
The Games are set to attract around 35,000 players and supporters who will descend to Queensland from across the world to witness more than 40 sporting events.
Chief Executive of Rugby Australia Raelene Castle said: ‘’This is a fantastic opportunity to shine the light on people who are eager to have a fun Rugby experience.
‘’Rugby union has been part of the Pan Pacific Masters Games since 1998 and we’ve seen some great talent come through.
‘’Now Foxtel Touch 7s is fast becoming one of the most popular formats of Rugby and we look forward to seeing this played out in front of an international audience.
The first Pan Pacific Masters Games kicked off on the Gold Coast in 1998 and since then the biennial event has become one of the region’s major draw cards.
Events Management Queensland CEO Cameron Hart said: “We’re anticipating 2018 to be our biggest year yet with more than 14,000 participants across all sports. This figure exceeds participation levels in both the Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games.
“I’m very pleased to have Foxtel Touch 7s as part of the Pan Pacific Masters Games, adding a new and exciting element to our thriving sports program.’’
Entries are now open for teams and individuals to register. The Foxtel Touch 7s tournament will run from Thursday November 8 to Saturday November 10.
