Brendan McKibbin, who won the 2014 Vodafone Super Rugby title with the NSW Waratahs, will join the Rugby AU Referee Coaching ranks after he completes the 2018-2019 season with London Irish.

McKibbin will join fellow former Waratah, Mitch Chapman as National Referee Development Coach as Rugby Australia continues to invest in the next generation of elite referees to officiate the HSBC Sevens World Series, Vodafone Super Rugby and Internationals.

McKibbin played for the NSW Waratahs from 2010-2015 before making the move to England to play for London Irish.

Rugby Australia Head of Referees, Scott Young said: “Brendan is highly regarded player and student of the game and will be an excellent addition to our high-performance refereeing team.

“Brendan will be working directly with the current and next generation of officials to ensure that Australian Rugby continues to produce world class referees that can contribute to the game and the domestic and International stage.”

Rugby Australia National Referee Development Coach, Brendan McKibbin said: “I’m really looking forward to this next chapter with the Rugby Australia Refereeing team and can’t wait to get stuck in when I return home.

“Officiating is such an important part of our game and to be able to contribute to Australian Rugby with our elite batch of referees is really exciting.

“I’d also like to thank London Irish for the past few seasons and it has been a fantastic club to finish my playing career and wish them well for the remainder of the season.”
